Can I have a drumroll please? I’m opening the card…and gasp! For two years running its one of the most upscale areas of the city, the Bay-Bloor- Yorkville neighbourhood! No, no please hold you applause. You see I can’t applaud because I can’t lift my arms after the workout I got trying to navigate Bay St. north from Bloor. It’s amazing STILL how many eateries are not accessible at all to someone in a wheelchair, let alone how bad the sidewalks are to navigate and this is supposed to be the richest shopping area in the city.
Now I admit the 10 girls dressed up as Statues of Liberty for a Westjet promotion were intriguing but…
Congrats Yorkville! You still suck for anyone on wheels!

Optimal Performance has started to follow this very important Blog relative to the AODA Act in Ontario. Given our city is hosting both the Pan and Para American Games in 2015 one would think the Mayor and Council would really push to ensure downtown Toronto is accessible to the athletes, fans, family and coaches who will visit Toronto. Another opportunity is lost to make Toronto a better city and live up to its constant billing of itself as being a world class city. Read Jason and Arthur’s input as they travel Toronto and environs and find where mobility related accessibility fails and passes the grade. O Dosis, JE Sleeth and the Accessibility team at OPC-AODA

Thanks Jane! Promise it won’t always be complaints about access, as I plan on discussing issues facing the newly disabled (it isn’t a term to run away from) and everything from travel to my own silliness in between. The support is appreciated!
